Dan Dickau, a former Prairie High School basketball player who now plays for the Los Angeles Clippers, will speak to teens at 10 p.m. Friday, June 27 at the Clark County YMCA.
Dickau’s visit to the YMCA, 11324 N.E. 51st Circle, is intended to launch a basketball outreach every Friday from 9 p.m. to midnight at the YMCA. It’s intended to give Clark County high school students a healthy, safe alternative from drugs and alcohol.
The Friday night events, including the kickoff June 27, are free and include contests and prizes. Nutritious snacks will be provided. School identification or proof of enrollment is required.
RIDGEFIELD
Refuge volunteers plan open house, recruiting
A volunteer group associated with the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge will host an open house, 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 26, at the Cathlapotle Plankhouse on the refuge’s Carty unit north of downtown Ridgefield.
The Friends of the Ridgefield National Wildlife Refuge is asking the public to pitch in — to help with education programs, giving tours of the plankhouse, leading nature walks, helping with the annual BirdFest celebration and doing habitat restoration.
