Dr. Anthony F. Daly, the longtime team physician for the Los Angeles Lakers, has died. He was 74.
Dr. Daly died at his home Friday following a lengthy battle with prostate cancer, said Dr. Robert S. Bray Jr., the executive director and founder of DISC Spine and Sports Center, where Daly was the director of sports medicine.
Dr. Daly served as the Clippers' team physician since the club moved to Los Angeles in 1984.
"Dr. Daly and his visionary approach to athletics paved the way for the field of sports medicine,"
Bray said in a statement. "He will leave a lasting legacy in the sports world that will be hard to match."
Dr. Daly had served as the medical director or team physician for numerous sporting events and athletic teams, including head physician at the 1980 Winter Olympics and the US "Miracle on Ice"
